LAfet® SM GS wire feed
Slip-optimized feeding for thin wires (0.2–0.6 mm)
Our fine wire feed system, LAfet SM GS, is used wherever very thin wires in the 0.2–0.6 mm range need to be fed in a controlled way that’s gentle on the material. Typical application areas include micro welding, laser deposition and joining processes, electronic connections, or processing of medical and precious-metal wire such as nitinol and platinum-rhodium.
With two synchronously driven toothed belts, the LAfet®-SM GS ensures uniform, slip-optimized feeding. The large-area pressure contact protects the wire and enables constant feeding.
LAfet®-SM GS wire feed
Controlled, material-friendly wire feeding for micro welding, laser joining and other precision applications
LAfet®-SM GS feeds very thin wires in a controlled, gentle way. Two synchronously driven toothed belts with servo-assisted pressure create a defined 10 mm grip zone and ensure smooth feeding – in start-stop as well as reversing operation.
The wire feed is designed for round, pushable wires with diameters from 0.2 mm to 0.6 mm. Smaller diameters are also possible upon consultation and prior testing.
Operation and technical highlights
The wire runs between two opposing toothed belts over a sliding shoe. In contact with the wire is the smooth back of the belt, not the tooth profile. The belts run synchronously against each other and form a defined clamping gap of 10 mm. Across this grip zone, the contact pressure is distributed over the full area.
The servo-assisted pressure dynamically adapts the contact force. Together with the positive engagement of the belts on the deflection pulleys, this reduces slip to a minimum and enables uniform wire feeding even with sensitive or very thin wires.
The straightening unit can be positioned continuously. It removes the twist from the spool and aligns the wire for precise delivery to the process location. This ensures a linear, axis-aligned wire exit.
Compatible wire materials
Materials that can be processed include, among others, steel and stainless steel, aluminum, bronze, gold, silver, copper, nitinol, platinum-rhodium, tantalum, along with tin and tin alloys. Additional wire materials and suitable non-metallic materials are also possible.
The wire must have a round cross-section and be pushable. An optimal diameter is 0.2 mm to 0.6 mm. For smaller diameters, a design can be defined by agreement and after preliminary testing.
For micro welding, laser joining and precision applications
The LAfet®-SM GS is suitable for applications where very thin wires need to be fed in a controlled manner and at a constant speed. These particularly include micro laser wire feeding for jewelry, watches and dental technology, and laser deposition and fusion welding.
Further applications include medical wire processing, such as of nitinol or platinum-rhodium for electrodes, catheters and implant components, as well as bonding and contacting systems for gold, aluminum or silver wires.
The feeder can also be used upstream of coiling, bending, straightening and cutting systems, and in automated micro soldering and resistance welding cells.

ProdukdatenblattMOBILE WIRE FEED SYSTEM
LAfet® -SM mobil
Looking for a flexibly usable, location-independent wire feed system? Then our LAfet®-SM Mobil system is a great choice.
The laser welding wire is fed into the melt through the LAfet®-SM Mobil handle under direct observation of the laser welder. The wire feed is started or ended by contact or isolation of the laser wire tip with the weld component.
QUALAS® WELDING FILLERS
A TRADEMARK OF L & A LASERTECHNIK UND APPLIKATIONEN GMBH
You can get the best results in combination with the QUALAS® welding fillers we have developed in collaboration with experienced metallurgists, users and welding filler manufacturers.
On request, we also supply our QUALAS® welding fillers with marking: In this case, the material number according to EN 10027-2:1992-09 is engraved on the wire surface and is therefore permanently recognizable.
